Kate Davies, designer of 2008's favorite knitting pattern, Owls was disappointed to discover that her design was stolen by Red Herring and sold at UK Department store Debenhams.

Here's what Kate has to say:

When one unpacks this legal nitty-gritty, the locus of my owl sweater’s “originality” might not seem all that substantial. But in the end it is these small things – the cable placement, the circular yoke, and the proportionate cable size – that make the sweater so striking that it is now immediately recognisable. I don’t think it would be going too far to say that my design is so popular that it has become, in some respects, iconic.
