Knitty Surprise Patterns for Deep Fall 2011
Knitting Magazine Reviews
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

Hooray! Knitty released the surprise patterns for Deep Fall 2011 today. That's one good way to get over Rowan Calmer getting discontinued! Well, except that the Shapely Boyfriend Sweater would be fantastic in Calmer. Also love the Uzu Sock. I have some Noro sock yarn that I've been wanting an excuse to use. Even better than the patterns is a great article from Stephanie Japel about how to achieve excellent fit. I'm pretty curvy and can benefit from these kinds of tips. It's so frustrating when you spend a long time knitting a sweater only to discover that it looks like the dog's breakfast on you.

Jane Austen Knits 2011
Knitting Magazine Reviews
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

JaneAustenKnitsI saw Interweave's new publication Jane Austen Knits in stores a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't realize it was an Interweave publication and my initial reaction was a little less than desired. When I first saw it, I was like, oh jeeze yet another knitting magazine and one for Jane Austen of all people, what will they think of next? Charles Dickens Knitting?.

I suppose my slightly negative reaction came from a few places.

1) I am so sick of mainstream fiction targeted towards women to be Jane Austen based. You know, the books about the children of the Darcys, the continuing stories of Mr. Darcy, blah blah blah. I love Jane Austen, but I dislike it when I'm so blatantly marketed to.

2) I love knitting magazines. I have tons of them. I have a hard time organizing them and filtering out the unwanted ones. Okay, it could be said that I hoard knitting magazines. However these days when I'm not making much money it's hard for me to justify purchasing all of teh knitting magazines. So I suppose part of my reaction was. Oh man, another knitting magazine I can't really afford.

However, now that I've seen the projects I must have this knitting magazine. Sigh. Gorgeous, some of them great for costuming.

What's your knitting magazine stash like? Will you be buying Jane Austen Knits? What makes you buy a knitting magazine? Let me know in the comments.

Interweave Knits Winter 2010 Preview is UP
Knitting Magazine Reviews
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

That was fast. Just a few weeks ago, we had the Interweave Knits Holiday Issue Preview up and without much of a wait, we have the Interweave Knits Winter 2010 Preview up. This might be a strategic thing in that a lot of people get issues of Interweave for Christmas, or even Interweave Knits Subscriptions (hint, hint Mr. KnitLuck).

Here's my review of the preview:

1) The cover rocks:

Vogue Knitting Holiday Preview is UP
Knitting Magazine Reviews
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

I heard on Sunday that the Vogue Knitting 2010 Holiday Preview was UP and I checked it out and was pleasantly surprised. I found it more interesting than the Interweave Knits Holiday issue. Let's be honest though, I'll probably purchase both.

Here's what I'm liking from Vogue Knitting Holiday 2010:

The Natural Woman Knits are very nice, but they don't really suit my frame, which I'll probably ignore and knit anyway:

Typically, I don't like knitting with metallics, but I do like the shape of this one from the "Golden Girls" section:

Finally I like the sloppy, worn look of this sweater. Looks like something I'd wear around the house.

What do you think of this Holiday's Vogue Knitting? Some people think it's not so hot? Is there anything that you must knit now?
