Big News in Time for Mother's Day - New Knitting Bags From Lexie Barnes
Fried Gold
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

I'm a long time fan of Lexie Barnes and her fantastic bags. They are the best knitting bags hands down. They are super durable and can fit just about everything but the kitchen sink. I have taken mine overseas, have used it as a knitting bag and a diaper bag. The Lexie Barnes bags are the rock stars of knitting bags. My Dutch Treat Lady B still looks brand new. So when I saw the newest bags released on Facebook just now, the new fabrics literally took my breath away.

Is the mom in your life a knitter? Hands down barring a ton of cashmere, the newest Lexie Barnes bags are the thing for mothers who knit this Mother's Day.

Here's a sneak preview! (The website is having difficulties, but hang in there -it will be worth a trip)

Avengers Knitting - Hulk, Thor and Iron Man
Fried Gold
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

--120000--107499_product_1978751830_thumb_largeFirst it was Iron Man, then it was The Hulk, then Thor (and Hawkeye) and Captain America, then Iron Man with Black Widow. Now all of them are in the Avengers (oh how can I forget Nick Fury?) and I know that the geeky knitters out there are asking themselves "Can I knit the Avengers?"

Why the heck not?

First off, knitting has its own set of superheroes, Handknit Heroes a knitting comic book written by Stephanie Bryant.

One Loopy Knitter made a knitted Hulk. (oo yay! Just found another interesting craft blog!)

You can buy some knitted Thor gloves on Artfire! If Thor's not your thing, you can buy Iron Man Repulsor Ray Gloves too. Oh and don't forget the Captain America gloves.

You can find a whole knitted Captain America costume here from Mark Newport (and Spiderman too for that matter.

Have you knit any comic book superhero stuff? What's your favorite superhero? Tell me in the comments!

I Got Tickets to See...
Fried Gold
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

The Yarn Harlot!!!!

She's coming to A Verb for Keeping Warm in July!!! There are still tickets available for some of her classes and for her talk "This is Your Brain on Knitting". One of my favorite knitting authors at one of the best yarn stores in the bay area. I wonder what kind of socks I should knit for the occasion?

Check out the classes she'll be teaching.

From the Verb website:

This is your brain on knitting is a funny and (hopefully) inspiring talk about what's happening in your brain while you knit. Using research and years of experience with knitters, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee talks about why you knit, why you can't stop if you do, and why you should start if you don't.

More Downton Abbey Knitting - The Lady Edith Shawl
Fried Gold
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

TheLadyEdithI can't believe I missed this one in my search for Downton Abbey knitting patterns! Knit Purl Gurl published the Lady Edith Shawl earlier this month. It's another Downton Abbey inspired pattern. I love KPG's analysis of Lady Edith of how she's the overlooked daughter. If you're looking for a beginner shawl, this might be the right one for you. The main body is rather simple, but with an interesting edging. The edging itself might be a little complicated for a beginner, but KPG's clear instructions and charts will take you far.

From Knit Purl Gurl:

The shawl is knit from side to side. It can be knit out of any weight or any amount of yarn. Using a scale will help one determine the total weight of the yarn prior to beginning the shawl. You begin knitting at one point and increase until half of the yarn is used up. Once approx. half of the yarn is used, you decrease. This is a wonderfully simple shawl with very little lace work.

Fried Gold Knitting - the Ru Doll, a Crocheted RuPaul
Fried Gold
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

Every now and then we come across something that can only be referred to as "fried gold", so awesome that it goes past gold to deep fried gold. Because everything is better when you deep fry it. Well, today I stumbled across something so awesome that I had to share it immediately.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you with Flint Knits RuDoll, the crocheted RuPaul doll:

rudoll

From Flint Knits:

It’s far too rare that kids–and especially queer kids–get the message that being different might not be a bad thing. For me, that glimmer of hope came in 1993 when I saw RuPaul on television for the first time. I’m not exaggerating when I say that punk rock and RuPaul saved my life.

Get yourself to Flint Knits now and see the rest of the photos of the RuDoll. LOVE.
