This is Emily. She needs your help. She has liver cancer and has to pay her medical bills out of pocket because she cannot get on her partner's health insurance for the simple reason that she is gay. In Kansas, gay people do not have the right to their partner's health insurance, a grievous human rights violation if there ever was one.

This notion give me the angries and makes me want to help, which is why I encourage you go here and learn about the raffle that Fidget is having, all proceeds will help Emily pay her medical bills, which amount to $1000/month. There's some nice yarn to win here and I'm willing to bet that more will be added.

Vogue Knitting is having a knitwear design competition just in time for their January Vogue Knitting Live Event. The Vogue Knitting Magic of Mohair Design Competition could win you a trip of a lifetime to South Africa! Simply design something with a yarn that uses at least 25% mohair and you could be on your way (mohair is primarily produced in South Africa).
From the website:
Vogue Knitting is proud to announce our "Magic of Mohair" Design Competition, sponsored by Mohair South Africa. The promotion is open to all knitters with an interest in design and features a distinct track for students, who will compete in separate categories for prizes including knitting supplies, gift cards and the Grand Prize trip to South Africa, where most of the world's mohair is produced. Winning entries will be featured in a future issue of Vogue Knitting and will be showcased at Vogue Knitting LIVE, held in New York City in January 2011. An international jury of hand-knitting experts will judge entries based on overall concept, uniqueness of vision and technical execution.
All "Magic of Mohair" entries must be received by December 1, 2010, to be eligible.
Will you be entering?
