Last week, I got the chance to chat with Lamina of Lamina's closet. She wanted to participate in the WindowShop, but unfortunately I was out of spots. Then I found out that she sold learn to spin kits, which was something I was wanting to try. I asked her if she was willing to send a kit for me to give it a whirl and I would mention it here. I had no idea that she had sent it, when this appeared for me at home:

It was box from Lamina the Great, a seller of learn-to-spin kits!

 

DSC03219Her kits include many different type of rovings, all labeled so that you can learn how each one spins. She recommends that you start with something easy, like the silver romsey. The kit also comes with a wooden spindle. Lamina's instructions come via email, which makes it them easier to follow, by simply moving your cursor instead of fumbling through papers.

 

 

So this evening I gave spinning a try. I had tried it once before and it was a total failure...

My stuff is a little over-spun, but I'm getting the hang of it. Lamina's instructions were spot-on! And her beginning tips made it easier for me to be more successful than my previous attempts. My goal is to spin all of the rovings and knit a scarf from all of them. Or something. I will wear it as a badge of honor whatever it turns out to be. I'll keep you informed.
