Yarn Along May Sixteenth

Huzzah! I have been knitting AND I have been reading. Even better, I have been reading about knitting. It being Wednesday and Yarn Along Day, you get to see a photo for proof.

For Mother's Day I took some momma-time and went out for breakfast by myself where I had the best breakfast sandwich known to man (Cafe Q in Alameda if you're in the area). Then I headed to my local bookstore and happily found The Principles of Knitting and My Life in Stitches by Rachel Herron. I splurged and bought both.

The Principles of Knitting is a must for any obsessed knitter. Any knitting question you have can be answered by the POK. My Life in Stitches was a wonderful read. Much of the memoir takes place in the area where I live so it made me feel right at home. It was such an intimate piece of writing that I felt like I was getting to know a friend better. The stories are parceled out in such compact pieces that it was an easy read, which is exactly what I need with two young children around me.

Knitting-wise I'm happy that I managed to get into the ribbed part of the diminishing rib.

However, I think the sweater is turning out a little bit on the big side, which sucks because I swatched and got gauge, but it's just ginormous. I'm a little worried that it's too late to turn back now :/ Or I'm just going to put some strategically placed buttons and turn it into an assymetric sweater. Hopefully not emphasized on the ass.

Should I just rip it out and start over? Or should I soldier on? Let me know in the comments.

yarnalong_gsheller_grayIt's Yarn Along time again and this week I'm not reading much, but I have been going to town on the Diminishing Rib cardigan, yes still I know that's pretty much all I work on. That and the socks.

Also check out the giveaway we're having and you could win a fabulous prize from an aweseome indie crafter. It's super cute!

yarnalong_gsheller_grayIt's Wednesday again and after missing out last week due to Knit and Crochet Blog Week I'm back with Yarn Along, where we share what we're knitting and what we're reading.

As mentioned earlier. I am taking another stab at my Diminishing Rib Cardigan. I have to count the stitches because I can't even remember which size I was knitting. I am a terrible knitter for not writing it down in the first place. Derp Derp Derp. I'm knitting it for Ravelympic training and I'm determined to get it finished by the end of the month. Heh heh. We'll see how well I do with that considering how much writing I have to do too. ;)

As for reading. I'm more likely to read magazines these days because my attention span is not so awesome and I'm frequently multitasking. It's much more satisfying to me to finish a good news article. Fiction has the tendency to make my skin itch because I find so much of it to be so contrived and I can all too often figure out the plot, which bores the hell out of me. This week, I've been fascinated by this issue of Time Magazine, featuring the last hours of Osama Bin Laden, and the lead up by the CIA and Federal government to his capture and death.

Are you participating in Yarn Along? Please say hello and I'll visit your blog. I'd love to see what you're making!

yarnalong_gsheller_grayIt's Wednesday and that means it's yarn along time. Time to share what I'm knitting and what I'm reading. This week I started another mitered block and started the second sock on the wonderland dyeworks pair. I'm reading the Pathfinder Core Rulebook because my poor husband wants to run me through a game and I've been too busy with the kids and the website to actually build my characters to play :( But maybe later today I will finally get that character on paper :)

Crafting is Not Always Pretty
Chez KnitLuck
Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

Sister Diane of Craft Social and Craftypod posted an interesting article the other day about knitting celebrities and how sometimes these "famous crafters" are foisted upon us as models and how in many cases these models can get us down because we can never attain the image that they portray of their perfect projects and their flawless finished objects. I know it gets me down and it's one of the reasons I enjoy reading the Yarn Harlot because she frequently shares her mistakes and screw ups.

I'm not a crafty celebrity by any stretch of the imagination, but I thought it might be time for us to share our messes. We all know how our yarn has magical ways of getting tangled together just sitting innocently in the yarn basket. And sometimes we actually have to delve into the knitting basket and revisit unfinished knitting failures objects. I did just that last night. The photos aren't pretty, but sometimes crafting isn't pretty. Sometimes it's a big mess. Sometimes our photos aren't very good and that's ok.

What are your knitting messes? Do you have photos of your untamed yarn basket? Share in the comments.

yarnalong_gsheller_grayIt's Yarn Along day where I join in with Ginny's blog and share what I'm knitting and reading today. I've been knitting stuff with my interchangeable knitting needles to figure out the differences between the Knit Picks and Knitter's Pride Interchangeable Knitting Needles, but I'm saving that knitting for Part 5 of the Interchangeable Knitting Needle Guide, which will be coming out later this week. Instead, I share with you a photo of the sock I was knitting last week, except there's a little change to it:

It's finished:

I don't have a lot of time for book reading, but that doesn't stop me from getting a little magazine fix every now and then. Later today I'm going to start the second sock sitting in my favorite spot on the couch, right by the window.

A Morning To Myself

Written by Angela Pallatto Hockabout

Thanks to some of my friends, I was able to get a couple of hours to myself and get my hair done. It was awesome sauce. I managed to squeeze a lot of my favorite things into those few hours: socializing, knitting, cappucino drinking, hair doing and town walking.

knittingatthesalon

Ooo. I forgot to mention magazine reading.

So I finally turned the heel and I'm working on the leg of the sock. This is what happens when I'm not casting on another mitered cross block.

I have been working on the Interchangeable Knitting Needle Guide. I may have received a few packages in the mail in the last week. Can you guess what I'll be reviewing?

Coming later this week: part 4 of the Interchangeable Knitting Needle Guide: Knit Picks Options vs Knitters Pride.
